Job Description
A well-established coastal restaurant in Langebaan is looking for a capable and driven Sous Chef to join their kitchen team. This is a hands-on role in a busy, high-quality environment with a strong focus on fresh, seasonal produce and consistent execution.
You'll work closely with the Head Chef to keep the kitchen running smoothly during service, maintain prep and plating standards, and support the development of junior kitchen staff. When the Head Chef is off, you'll take the lead with confidence.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Running sections during service and ensuring consistent output across the pass.
- Supporting the Head Chef with menu prep, specials, and seasonal changes.
- Training and guiding junior chefs and kitchen assistants.
- Maintaining food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards throughout the kitchen.
- Overseeing mise en place and ensuring the team is prepped and ready for service.
- Managing stock rotation and flagging wastage or shortages.
What We're Looking For:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar kitchen environment.
- Solid understanding of a la carte service and volume cooking.
- Proven ability to lead a team during a busy service.
- Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
A calm, organised approach under pressure.
- Experience with fresh seafood and coastal cuisine is a strong advantage.
- Relevant culinary qualification or equivalent hands-on experience.
Salary is market-related and negotiable based on experience.
